CIRCUS ARTS TRAININGS

Beginner Aerial Teacher Training:  MARCH 28-31, 2025

To Bring to the Training:
  1. Valid Photo ID
  2. Circus Aerial Safety manual
  3. Water bottle and any other workout gear
  4. Clothing without any embellishments (buttons, sequins, zippers, velcro)
  5. To participate fully in our online Trainings, please use a computer, laptop or tablet.  A phone does not provide you with a large enough screen.

To Do Before the Training:
  • Purchase an Aerial Circus Training and Safety Manual (one can be bought during class as well)
  • Download the Guidelines for the Circus Arts Safety Network for future reference
  • Decide which apparatus you will train/certify in (one apparatus per training)
  • Decide if you are going to pursue a Beginner Teacher Certification
  • After you have accepted your invitation from YouTube and received the video links, please take time to watch the Demonstration, Teach Spot and Proper Body Position videos for your apparatus before we meet for the Aerial Teacher Training.
  • We use Zoom for our online training & will need a good view of each other from the following locations:   
  • Your lecture and discussion Space
  • Your Floor Space for warm ups & cool downs 
  • Your Aerial Space (if you are using a rig)
  • We recommend you perform a test run with a peer to try out each view before you join us online.​
  • Test the sound quality in your Aerial space. You will want a Bluetooth headset (with fresh batteries or fully charged) to wear so that you can hear us during the training and not be distracted by background noises.
  • If you have installed and will be using the Zoom desktop application, please download the updates here.
  • Prior to getting onto Zoom, perform network connectivity optimizations as follows:
  • For your home network, if you know how to check for and perform a firmware update to any of your devices (modem, router, switch, etc.), this may be something to do on a regular basis for security and performance improvements.  If you do not know how to do this, that's OK, but you may want to look into this in the near future.
  • Reboot all of your home network equipment (modem, router, switch, etc.).  This is a simple thing to do, just unplug the power cord for about 1 minute, then plug it back in.
  • Reboot your PC, laptop, phone, whichever device you plan to use for the session.  It is recommended to use the most current device; PC or laptop preferred.
  • Reduce the number of devices on your home network by turning OFF the device(s) not needed.  This will help to increase the bandwidth availability at your location.
  • It has been recommended (when possible) that no one else be streaming in the home while using Video Conferencing and (if possible) no other WiFi on at the time of use.
  • Before signing in and joining us on Zoom, be certain that your browser has permissions for BOTH camera & microphone.  This is typically in the browser permissions or security under the settings or options page of a browser.
  • For Silks and Hammock Trainees - Whether you have your rig this weekend or not, part of this training includes practicing rigging and tying fabric together. Therefore, please have a spare pair of aerial fabric and a rescue 8 handy so we can work on tying together.  If you are using your rig this weekend with us, it would also be ideal if you can easily take your silks down and we can rig together for our lesson if time allows.
  • ​For Hammock Trainees - We ask that you take time to look at this video on how to tie a hammock.

Teacher Training Private Lessons (can be shared with other trainees)

Want more time in the air, more focused feedback? Want to make sure you're ready for the assessment? Schedule a teacher training private lesson with one of our trainers. Time spent counts towards practice hours for certification application.  In addition to teacher training private lessons, we also offer skill training for those who would like to hone in on their skills with our expert trainers while spending the weekend with us.

Availability: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday after the training
To Schedule:  For Friday privates, please email us to book in advanced.  Otherwise, we will be signing up trainees for slots during the training, starting Friday
Cost: $100/hour (can be shared with up to 3 other trainees)

Important Policy Stuff

Policies
  • Deposit required to enroll, with the balance due (no later than) 30 days prior to the first day of training.
  • In order to maintain a fair and cost-effective structure for all trainees and to provide the best experience possible, Circus Arts Institute has initiated the following policy. If less than six (6) trainees register for any one apparatus, those trainees will be given the option to take the training as a private training, receive full credit toward future training at Circus Arts Institute, or receive a full refund.
  • Cameras are required to be turned on and your presence for the entire Aerial Teacher Training (ATT).  Research shows that both instructors and students benefit most when we can all see each other. (For any medical exceptions or accommodations, please contact Carrie directly.)
  • Tips for being fully present:
  • If you find yourself distracted by other trainees’ videos while the instructor is presenting, you can alter your viewing settings.  For example, Zoom has a “speaker view” that automatically focuses on the person speaking. Also, there is an option to pin the instructor's video so it takes up the whole screen.
  • Alternatively, you can place a sticky note on the portion of your screen that shows other trainee’s videos.
  • We will have multiple breaks to help you stay focused.
Cancellation Policies
  • In the event of a cancellation by the Circus Arts Institute, rescheduling will be attempted and if rescheduling is not possible, full refunds of all deposits and pre-payments will be dispersed.
  • If the participant informs the Circus Arts Institute of a change in plans to not attend the course 30 days or more before the first day of training, we will gladly refund* payments made.
  • If the notice is given less than 30 days prior to the first day of training, the deposit will be held and further refund* status will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • After the training packets have been printed and mailed (approximately 3 weeks prior to the start date of training), there are no refunds.
  • *All refunds incur a $35 Administrative Fee.  If your rig was visited virtually by our Safety Compliance Coordinator, an additional $50 Rig Visit Fee will also apply.
