What is Circus Arts Social Summer?
Circus Arts Social Summer (CASS) provides a chance for participants to learn exciting circus skills and experience Sensations TheraFun™ - the Multisensory Activity Center in Atlanta - where kids come to play while achieving therapeutic goals. This happens in a FUN and cooperative environment while focusing on community building, teamwork and safety.
All programs are under the direction of adult circus stars and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker - we will work with both the physical and social aspects of timing; not only of when to do a trick, but also when to speak and when to listen.
Through this form of movement we work on balance, strength, coordination and flexibility.
Every child can be a Circus Star for the week!

Who Is the Circus Arts Social Summer Program Designed for?
The CASS program has been specifically designed, using Carrie Heller's approach and methodology, for children ages 5 to 12 with special needs, including learning differences.
This program is for children who like to stimulate their imagination and creativity in a playful, social setting.
CASS provides a place for the child who has trouble in large groups and might require a high staff to student ratio.
Participants may be going through a rough time in their lives and need extra attention or they may be withdrawn and difficult to engage in conversation and activities.
Learning these fun and unique circus skills, your camper will experience "THERAPY IN ACTION."
CASS will include specific activities to encourage and enhance:
- Bilateral coordination skills
- Muscle strength, including core muscles
- Crossing the midline abilities
- Brain and body balancing
- Self esteem
- Teamwork
- Ability to overcome fears
- Communication with peers
- Balance, flexibility & coordination
- Focus and attention

Frequently Asked Questions

|
What is Circus Arts Social Summer (CASS)?
|
Date : 1/20/2010
|
|
|
Circus Arts Social Summer is for children ages 5-12 with social, emotional, and physical challenges including attention difficulties, hyperactivity, sensory issues, low self-confidence, difficulty interacting socially, & kids who have trouble in large groups. Participants will have a chance to utilize circus equipment as well as the equipment at Sensations TheraFun™ to gain physical skills as well as learn important social skills such as teamwork, cooperation and self-confidence in a fun & safe environment.
Carrie Heller’s approach in her Circus Arts Social Summer comes from over 20 years of working with both typical children and those with learning differences, both inside and outside of the therapy room. In her therapy work she assesses a child's physical capabilities, and designs a series of activities using the Circus equipment for each child to work on - one on one - as well as with the group, thus attending simultaneously to other emotional and social aspects of the child's development.

Is this Circus Camp?
|
Date : 1/18/2010

|
No. Carrie is the founder of Circus Camp and although she is no longer in charge, she highly recommends it as a wonderful experience for children.
Circus Arts Social Summer (CASS) is a therapy group day program for children with special needs such as learning differences. Children who require more individual attention and who do not typically flourish in a traditional camp setting.
